This distinguished house of the PETRONIKOLIS family, which was built in 1750 and was reconstructed in 2005, is now waiting for you to experience its unique hospitality. Every possible attempt was made for the initial structure of the house to be preserved, as they would have done in 1750, with handmade wooden furniture and traditional equipment. Wood, stone and a lot of personal care are the basic elements comprising the internal and external areas of the house.

If you seek a hospitable place for filling up your energy and get some rest in a traditional house, then this is the right place for you!The traditional guests’ house is named after its first owner, PETRONIKOLIS, and is situated in the centre of the village Houdetsi, 20 klm south of Heraklion, Crete.


The traditional house of PETRONIKOLIS is situated in the heart of the village and offers guests four cosy apartments, decorated with genuine Cretan taste.
These beautiful, warm apartments are made with love and respect to tradition, providing you with all comforts and thus, ensuring an unforgettable stay.
Each room has kept its traditional name and has its own history.

The traditional apartments ‘Portego’, ‘Magatzes’, ‘Ontas’ and ‘Ahyri’ are ready to accommodate you and offer you unique moments of peace and calmness. All rooms are traditionally decorated with wooden ceilings, handmade wooden furniture, Cretan textiles, handwoven cloths and pictures.



Facilities
All apartments have a fully equipped kitchen, with refrigerator, small oven, cooking utensils, coffee pot, boiler, toaster, mini bar and a complete dinner set. There is also autonomous heating system for each room, air conditioner, satellite TV, stereo, Internet, telephone, safe box, hair dryer and bath with hot water. In the surroundings there is an area of relaxation for the adults and a playground for children in the middle of a green garden.

There are also a swimming-pool, a tavern with excellent food and a traditional cafe.
Remarkable is also the incredible view of the village.

The apartments can accommodate from 2 up to 4 persons, depending on the type.

The village Houdetsi is located in Crete, in a distance of 20 klm south of the airport and port of the city of Heraklion, in 450 m altitude. The population of the village is 1100 people. It is a traditional village of great beauty, which continuously grows and has many buildings of traditional architecture.

  • The old primary school, built in 1925
  • The ‘Hantzine’, the old water spring of the village, springing water since ages to the inhabitants of the village and the ones passing by and is aslo the source for watering the flowers of the houses’ gardens. The spring is in the middle of the village, in the church 's yard. These waters also run down to the brook thus ‘feeding’ other trees also.
  • The folklore museum of music ‘Labyrinth’, founded in 1982 by Ross Daly, aiming to collect, preserve and promote traditional music instruments from all over the world.
  • The Minoan megaron in Vathypetro, 2 km away from Houdetsi, which is said to be built in 1600 B.C. and abandoned in 1550 A.C.
  • The gorge leading to the Sacred Monastery of the Madonna in Cave, a magical natural scenery full of tall platan - trees and plenty of running water, is something that will remain unforgettable to all visitors.
  • The Monastery of Saint George, 12 klm southwest of Houdetsi, which was built around 1600 and has made a rich fortune since then, from co-founders and venetian detonators. In this place many valuable relics are kept.
  • The Monastery of Agarathos, 14 klm, eastern of Houdetsi, which is considered one of the oldest monasteries in Crete and is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin.
  • The castle of Nikiforos Fokas, in the village of Profitis Ilias, 14 klm northwestern of Houdetsi.
  • The museum of Nikos Kazantzakis, in the village Mirtia, 12 km away from Houdetsi. The museum is hosted in the family house and is dedicated to the famous Cretan writer.
